Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 14 June
Northeastern corner of Lafayette - 10:54am - 2 Hours
Lafayette Photography Group
Mallory Stanford
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

Composition in the Park

Saturday 12 July
S College Road - 10am - 2 Hours
Lafayette Photography Group

Come and join us as we explore composition in photography.

Composition is one of the most critical element in photography. Composition is how a photographer arranges the visual elements within their image, frame. I promise you that if you search for information on composition you will find plenty You will find formal rules, opinion, some of which you can trace back to historical art movements and painters.

Even in the digital world, composition remains the key to creating strong images. Composition is what guides our eye through an image and gives importance to the subject. It creates the story for the viewer and how we as photographers convey that message.

This meetup will explore composition using our frame and tools available to us as the photographer.

This was my first in person art class - and I am a true beginner- so I was pretty nervous going in. Ciara was very sweet and set a good tone for the meeting. I very much enjoyed the class and the conversation with other students.

Title or Location: On the Road to Find Out.
Several of my pieces feature paths disappearing into the woods. The title comes from a line in a Cat Steven?s song. I have always been taken by roads disappearing around a bend. What?s just out of sight? Robert Frost?s poem The Road Not Taken has been an inspiration to me. Completed in oil in 2024.

I?m honored to join the Lafayette Art Group and become part of this inspiring community of local artists. As an artist, my intention when creating pieces like ?The Golden-Hour Heron? is to capture the surrounding community while bringing tranquility and connection to the viewer or owner. Using acrylic paints, I enjoy bringing to light a blend of abstract and naturalism styles. Color, texture and detail are central to any piece I?m curating. My process begins with reflection and carefully

This pop of spring is created on 6x6 ceramic tile, mounted on glass and inserted in a 8x8 shadow box. I am a fluid, acrylic artist. The background was created by transferring a ?pour? with the main subject painted with fluid acrylics using a plastic spoon. Those spoons aren?t just for takeout. Embellishments are my touch of whimsy.

Title or Location: Bournville Rest house in winter
I took up oil painting after retiring from the the NHS. Bournville looks stunning on a snowy day when the sun is shining. I worked this from a photo I took when the light was perfect. The colours of snow are magical. It is never white. The perspective on the Rest house is quite challenging!

It was my last day on my London trip and I was very depressed. I visit London a lot and am always sad to leave. That day I decided to visit Camden Town because I had never visited that particular part of London. I wasn?t disappointed. It?s a vibrant place filled with art, people on their way to and fro, and markets. I left feeling happy and optimistic.
